  This program was undertaken to further develop the program of study for individuals interested in pursuing a career in safety and health management. Specific attention was given to expanding the classes provided so that all interested students could be accommodated, to expand courses offered to provide a greater depth of understanding of the field, to make classes available for students primarily studying other fields but for whom a working knowledge of safety and health management would be helpful, to provide laboratory work time so that students could become accustomed to operating the measuring equipment and other instruments they would be using in the field, and to obtain a person for the position of Health Management Specialist. Through the grant the University has hired a certified industrial hygienist with a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Hygiene. This has enabled the program to experience tremendous growth. A second course on fire technology and a course in safety and health instrumentation and measurement were added to the curriculum. Equipment was purchased to provide an instrumentation and measurement laboratory. Enrollment in the safety and health program was increased from 60 majors to space for 110.
