Description:Data collection procedures are described in a study of cardiorespiratory changes in a defined population. Results indicate that electrocardiogram abnormalities are influenced by race and smoking habits. Smokers show significantly greater rate of decrease of carbon-monoxide uptake with age. Carbon-monoxide (630080) uptake is found to be less efficient than FEV-1 in predicting respiratory symptoms. An association between hypertension and respiratory allergies is identified in nonsmokers.
