Description:Results are presented of a study to determine: individual and environmental factors underlying physiological strains in industrial workers on hot jobs; criteria for determining excessive strains; and standards for heat exposure in industry. Studies in an open hearth area of a steel plant have yielded heart rate data under high temperatures which are valid indicators of potential excessive strain. [Description provided by NIOSH]
