Description:The 4th edition of this medical text, edited by Dr. Martin Brodwin and his associates, is a totally revised version of the popular medical text that has been used in university master's degree programs in rehabilitation counseling for the last twenty years. While retaining much of the earlier text from the 3rd edition, Dr. Brodwin has brought various chapters to a new level of information consistent with the current state of medicine in the various areas of discipline. The thirty-four chapters have been reorganized to better fit into a cluster of similar chapters such as Brain and Spinal Cord Conditions, or Psychosocial Conditions. As with the previous edition, this version also provides discussion information at the end of each chapter, along with a brief case summary to illustrate how the information is relevant to a person with that chapter's topical area. The intent by the editors is to present medical and psychological information and make the information relevant to the rehabilitation process for persons with disabilities. The chapters are not too detailed or lengthy, and are targeted to the topic which is being addressed. Students will appreciate the clarity and succinctness of each chapter along with the excellent organization of each chapter. The contents, which are comprehensive for a book of this type, superbly address each of the pertinent areas of medical conditions and disability. Finally, the Appendix contains a very useful section of "mastering medical terminology," and the index is comprehensive enough to quickly allow the reader to find specific topics within the text.
