  The purpose of this book is to provide a readily source of readings which focus on the managerial issues which are associated with occupational health and safety. Many of the articles which are included in the book are from journals which are rarely read by, and are frequently not readily available to, professors and students in schools of business. Reading these articles will not make the student an expert in the technical or legal aspects of occupational health. However, the articles should provide readers with enough knowledge about occupational health to make them aware of the following facts: (1) problems related to occupational safety and health do exist in almost all companies and are serioius problems in many companies, (2) these problems frequently involve complex and controversial issues, (3) the problems seldom have simple solutions, (4) proposed solutions are always difficult, and sometimes impossible, to evaluate and thus, (5) the solutions are frequently controversial and seldom possible to justify by a simple cost/benifit analysis. Students who understand these facts will be much better prepared to handle any occupational safety or health issues which must be considered in making managerial decisions.
