  The instructor's manual for the course, Control of the Occupational Environment, is presented. The manual was prepared for the Division of Training and Manpower Development, NIOSH. The course consists of five lessons. The first lesson presents the general concepts of hazard control in the industrial environment. The second lesson covers airborne contaminants and how they affect control measures. Lesson 3 deals with radiation control. Techniques and considerations for controlling workplace exposure to radiation are examined. The fourth lesson discusses the control of thermal stress. Considerations and techniques for controlling occupational exposures to heat and cold are discussed. The fifth lesson considers noise control. The principles of noise reduction by elimination, modification, and substitution are discussed. Techniques of noise path control by alteration, enclosure, and isolation are examined.
