  The student workbook (Man, Machine, Environment) for the NIOSH Safety Program Design and Management course is presented. The module is a review of system safety techniques useful for occupational safety specialists in recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards. The primary goal of the module is to familiarize students with the concepts of systems safety and to provide experience in the use of safety techniques. The module is made up of seven lessons. The first lesson deals with systems safety development. The second lesson discusses the use of tables as a technique for systems safety evaluation. The application of tables to mode and effect analysis in studies of hazards is considered. The third lesson discusses the use of logic diagrams in systems safety techniques. The fourth lesson considers logic diagrams and symbols. Lesson 5 presents multiple systems safety techniques. The sixth lesson covers success analysis.
