Description:A safety and health course for industrial and vocational education supervisors and instructors is presented. The course is organized into 17 separate units. Units include: impact of accidents on industrial/vocational educational shop programs, organization for safety and health programs, essential processes in hazard control, shop operations hazard analysis, safety committees, accident investigation techniques, safety and health inspection techniques, principles of good shop planning, safe working surfaces, maintenance of industrial/vocational school shops, illumination and color for safety, fire protection, health hazards, personal protective equipment, machine guarding, safety and health considerations in welding and cutting operations, and electrical safety. Each unit is presented in a format consisting of methods, purpose, objectives, special terms, instructor materials, and trainee materials. A question and answer section is provided at the end of each unit. The course is designed as a complete training program for administration over a 3 day period. The primary purposes of the course are to acquaint supervisors and instructors with the characteristics of effective safety and health programs; demonstrate the relationships between hazards encountered in the industrial and vocational shop; provide information on safety and health problem identification and evaluation, inspections, accident investigations, and selection and use of effective hazard controls; and teach participants to differentiate important hazards from those with lesser destructive potential.
