  • Description:
Reduced pump diameter allows use of smaller diameter wells and reduces drilling costs. This report describes pumping systems that can be used in smaller diameter wells at in situ leaching operations. Two 2-in monitor pumps were built and tested in 2-in wells, and two 3-in corrosion-resistant (production) pumps were built and tested in a 3.35-In well. The monitor pump was an 8 hp, 41-stage, centrifugal booster pump driving an injector located down in the well. The two pumps delivered 9.4 to 11.5 Gpm, depending on the water level. The gasoline engines used 0.65 Gph of gasoline. The performance of both pumps was unchanged after the test period. The production pump was a 40-hp, 12-stage, centrifugal booster pump driving an injector located down in the well. The two production pumps delivered 31 to 39 gpm against approximately 20 psi. The drive motors drew approximately 48 amp on a 420-v, 3-phase circuit. During the 40-h test run of each pump there was one shutdown that was caused by an overpressurization in the service line that caused the safety switch to cut out. The performance of both pumps was unchanged after the test period. [Description provided by NIOSH]
