Description:This report (Contract No. H0110845) describes a computer-controlled communication and monitoring system for monitoring the environment in underground coal mines. Ten underground stations transmit alarm information and values of air velocity; methane, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen concentration; temperature and rate of changes of temperature; noise; and smoke. The central processor controls polling of underground stations and records data on magnetic tape. A lamp console displays the status of the system. A complete description of the sensors, electronics, power supplies, and communications channel is given in this report. [Description provided by NIOSH]
