  The use of radiological techniques in asbestos (1332214) related disease was reviewed and discussed. Conventional chest X-rays have been the standard method for identifying asbestos related lung diseases, including pleural effusions, pleural plaques, rounded atelectasis, asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. Clinical criteria for diagnosis of asbestosis and asbestos related diseases have included an abnormal chest radiograph, frequently described by lower zone irregular opacities of International Labor Organization (ILO) profusion 1/0 or 1/1. Chest radiographs have been the primary method of surveillance and screening for asbestos dust exposed workers. Advanced imaging techniques used for the assessment of the lungs of asbestos dust exposed workers were described and discussed, including conventional computed tomography (CT), and high resolution computed tomography (HRCT). CT and HRCT, in combination with the traditional chest X-ray, can be used to establish the presence of pleural abnormalities and to provide details of the parenchyma.
