Description:This testimony contains answers to several questions raised by OSHA concerning the proposed rule change for safe operations in confined spaces. These remarks pertained to worker participation in promoting greater worker consciousness about the hazards in this type of work; accuracy of monitoring and testing devices (oxygen deficiency monitors, combustible gas monitors, and other specific monitors), nonspecific monitors, operator training and skill, battery care, employer assurance of proper use of monitoring devices; permit space identification guidelines; reevaluation of a work space; number of spaces or entrants to be monitored by a single attendant; attendant reliance on remote radios; rescue by attendant; use of outside rescue team; and employee information. Comments were also submitted on cardiopulmonary resuscitation after cardiopulmonary arrest in confined spaces. [Description provided by NIOSH]
