    An occupational safety and health technology curriculum program developed at Ferris State College, Big Rapids, Michigan was described. An advisory committee was established to assist in program development and operation. The committee was made up of safety and health professionals from the various representative loss control agencies. Matters of course content, equipment selection and other problems related to the construction and operation of the program have been dealt with through this committee. Courses were designed to meet the requirements for associates and bachelors degrees. Recruitment of students for these degree programs was a major effort as occupational safety has not received the occupational push that high school and career counselors give to other professional occupations. The first graduates in the associates program did not have an easy time obtaining employment in the field. That has changed as more and more the public and employers are becoming aware of the importance of this field. Most of those graduating in the 2 year associates degree program have obtained employment in the insurance field. Those completing the 4 year bachelors program have obtained employment in the manufacturing industry. [Description provided by NIOSH]
