Description:A study of 142 male workers, including 77 occupationally exposed to mercury (7439976), was carried out to determine if any changes in eye-hand coordination test performance occur upon exposure to metallic mercury vapor, and to determine if the changes can be detected in workers who cannot be classified as sick based on the classical clinical symptoms attributed to mercury. The changes were studied with and without local muscle fatigue. Human performance changes are found to occur, and loss of consistency in performance suggests that the damage due to mercury may be occurring at the cerebellar level. [Description provided by NIOSH]
