  The noncarcinogenic effects of arsenic are reviewed. Included are its toxicity, threshold limit value compared with other toxic substances, use as a poison, arsenic levels in food, body burden in various tissues, the arsenic cycle in nature, signs and symptoms of arsenic poisoning in man and animals, enzymes inhibited by arsenic, blocking by arsenite of the conversion of malate to fumarate or vice versa as an explanation for arsenic's ability to affect many organ systems, teratogenicity and incidences of arsenic poisonings in various trades in England.
