Follow up survey of coal miners.

  Results are presented of a survey designed to evaluate the effectiveness of procedures used to notify underground coal miners and their designated physicians when X-ray examinations provided under the Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969 reveal the presence of significant, non-pneumoconiotic conditions. Seven percent of the miners responding to the survey indicated that they failed to receive the original notification letter and 1.5 percent of the survey forms mailed were returned to the sender as undeliverable. For physicians, the corresponding figures were 4 percent and 2.5 percent. Recommendations are made for improving the system. [Description provided by NIOSH]
