Description:Chronic bronchitis is found in 20% of employees of an ice manufacturing plant exposed to ammonia, frost, and dampness, and in 14% of workers in non-exposed areas. Lung mechanics, expressed by forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume measurements, are slightly lower for the exposed workers than for the control group. Differences in incidence of chronic bronchitis and lung ventilation in he workers are not considered to be significant, smoking found to be significantly related to respiratory symptoms in the workers.
