  Occupational stress caused by video display terminals (VDT) is discussed in a presentation to the 1981 International Conference on Machine Pacing and Occupational Stress. Background information on information processing work is provided emphasizing the distinctive characteristics of VDT work which separates it from most mechanized industrial work. Current research on VDT job descriptions, perceived job stressors, work environment, task descriptions, health, and worker characteristics are described.
