Description:Guidelines for permissible limits for one handed lifts in the horizontal plane by female workers were developed. The guidelines are based on object weight, reach distance, and frequency of lift. Pretraining measurements, associated with anthropometric characteristics, training procedures, and physiological, psychophysical, and methods time measurement evaluation, associated with the development of the guidelines are considered. Physiological evaluation included measurement of oxygen uptake rate, heartrate, blood pressure, grip strength, endurance time, rating of perceived exertion, and electromyography. General recommendations are proposed for the design of the workplace and tasks involving arm work. [Description provided by NIOSH]
