The presence of aluminum in the environment, its forms, and the occupational health concerns are discussed. Various documentation and reports are listed that summarize the toxicity of aluminum. The need to determine the role of aluminum in fibrosis is discussed, and in available data on the acute and chronic toxicity of aluminum are described. The author concludes that there is sufficient information available for the establishment of standards and the development of a criteria document for aluminum exposure.
