Statistics on the types and frequencies of injuries to firefighters are presented. Current standards for firefighters' protective equipment are summarized. Deficiencies in design or performance of available equipment and clothing are also described, and current research efforts towards the development of more comfortable and efficient clothing and equipment are summarized.
