Description:Attempts to devise a method (S373) for analyzing methyl-mercaptan (74931) are described. The proposed method involved collection in a solid sorbent tube, desorption with solvent, and analysis by gas chromatography with a flame photometric detector in the sulfur (7704349) operation mode. Other methods tested for n-butyl- mercaptan and ethyl-mercaptan were reviewed. Development of the proposed method was discontinued, since results of other mercaptan analysis reports indicated poor recovery and stability rates, and lack of specificity.
