Evaluation of phase I of an occupational health, primary care program interfaced with the general health care delivery system (final evaluation report).

  A 1 year evaluation study of a health care plan for the Bronx unit of the New York Telephone Company was conducted by the company Medical Department. The Health Care Management system, which included Health Education, Preventive Measures, Early Diagnosis, Ambulatory Care, Crisis Care, Domiciliary Care, and Rehabilitation, was a cooperative two way liaison between the company Medical Department and community physicians. The primary care of physicians was supported by the company through followups with company professionals, education and counselling, consultation, and diagnostic studies. Program structure, budget, and publicity activities are described. Estimates of employee participation, lost man hours, and expenditures for professional efforts resulting from program implementation are provided. The state of health of all participating employees is represented by their status in a spectrum code ranging from freedom of abnormality to partially or totally disabled. Absence and hospitalization are discussed. Employee opinions of the program were surveyed by questionnaires. The authors conclude that Health Management Care is a feasible program which will coordinate well with community care resources, improved employee health, and reduce company health care costs.
