Description:Underground coal mining equipment is used in one of the most demanding operating environments known. As a result, the cost of maintaining this equipment is very high. In addition, the number of maintenance-related injuries remains persistently high despite efforts to reduce the number of accidents. This U.S. Bureau of Mines study concludes that application of accepted human engineering design standards and criteria could substantially reduce maintenance risk. [Description provided by NIOSH]
