Description:With the application of new materials, the vacuum-rolling technique first demonstrated in the U.S.S.R. Now has been further extended in the United States, and the technology and operating parameters for vacuum roll bonding of many bimetals have been established. The technology is difficult, but the potential for commercialization probably exists. This U.S. Bureau of Mines paper indicates that with larger scale, continuous vacuum-cladding equipment, the process may be a profitable, as well as prudent, approach to the use of critical and scarce metals.
