  An improved dust collector system, mounted in a continuous miner boom, has improved face ventilation and dust removal from both blowing and exhaust face ventilation air. The scrubber system is designed for low coal seams, compatibility with a 10-ft line curtain, high reliability, and low maintenance. It consists of two (twin) scrubbers, each mounted in the forward inby end of the boom. The twin-scrubber system delivers a total of 5,000 cfm, with one scrubber mounted on each side of the continuous miner's auger support frame. Each scrubber consists of a 2,500-cfm centrifugal fan, direct-driven at 4,000 rpm by a hydraulic motor; a flooded stainless steel wire mesh scrubber panel, 14- by 16- by 1/4-in thick; water sprays (two on each scrubber at 2.5 Gpm at 150 psig); a water-droplet eliminator; and associated ductwork. Air intakes are located within 6 ft of the coal face and are designed to reduce clogging during the mining cycle. All components except the exhaust duct are fabricated from heavy-gauge steel.
