Description:In cooperation with several other federal agencies, the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines, is investigating the composition of manganese nodule processing feed material and the possible reject waste material composition from several types of potentail manganese processing options. In this study, both pilot plant and bench-scale-generated rejects are being studied for chemical composition and physical characteristics. This paper reports the results and estimates of reject waste material composition from five process types considered for first-generation manganese nodule processing. Particular emphasis is placed on two ammonia-based bench-scale processes. [Description provided by NIOSH]
