  • Description:
A performance and cost model that describes percussive drilling and blasting has been developed for underground stoping and drifting situations. It predicts performance and costs from such inputs as mine design variables, machine parameters, and physical rock properties. Output of the model is in terms of footage drilled, tons broken, and costs per ton and per foot of advance. The drill- blast model was tested at a mine site using mine production data. Output from the model duplicated the mine's results for the various situations tested. The performance and cost model utilizes recent rock mechanics research work of the Bureau of Mines and others. It combines mathematical models of percussive drilling and underground blasting with the essential element of cost. The model can be used to analyze alternative drill-blast designs, equipment mixes, and manpower allocations and the effects of rock hardness. [Description provided by NIOSH]
