Description:This investigation determines that the automation of a continuous mining section will improve the health and safety of the miner, increase section productivity and decrease mining costs, result in a more attractive and desirable working environment, and will result in a greater rate of return on capital investment. The report is in three phases: (1) assessment of the impact of the automation technology in mining health and safety, (2) estimation of the cost- effectiveness and productivity of automation, and (3) prediction of the psychological and organizational impacts of automated mining.
