  • Description:
The system installed at the Bureau of Mines Bruceton Research Center comprised an aboveground central computer control facility (or surface monitor station) and 10 mine monitor stations at selected locations within the mine. Each station provided local measurement and display of several environmental parameters that were judged critical to safety in mining operations. These included smoke, noise, carbon monoxide, methane, hydrogen, temperature, rate of temperature rise, and ventilation rate. The system was designed to demonstrate that continuous monitoring of these parameters could provide early recognition of a potentially dangerous condition so that corrective action could be taken before a disaster occurs. One of the primary objectives of this contract effort was to provide a highly productive tool for mine safety research. [for this reason, the surface monitor station included not only parameter display and alarm systems but a very flexible and functional data handling and storage system.] this is a report on Contract No. H0110845.
