Description:Worker exposures to sulfuric-acid (7664939) mists, stibine (7803523), arsine (7784421), and lead (7439921) were determined at the General Battery and Ceramic Corporation (SIC-3692) in Dallas, Texas, on December 6, 1978. The company was under consideration for inclusion in a NIOSH study of health effects of sulfuric-acid exposure. The company employed 200 production workers, and had an established safety and health program that utilized a fulltime supervisor and nurse. Personnel records provided demographic information and work histories. General area samples for sulfuric- acid ranged from 0.03 to 1.03 micrograms. Lead measurements were negative. Arsine samples ranged from undetectable to 0.06 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/CuM). Stibine concentrations ranged from undetectable to 0.35mg/CuM. The authors conclude that a retrospective study of this facility is unfeasible due to insufficient records. [Description provided by NIOSH]
