Description:A medical survey was conducted at the Plymouth Rubber Company (SIC- 3069) in Canton, Massachusetts, from May 24 to 26, 1972. Sixty two workers exposed to talc (14807966) in the band room were examined for pneumoconiosis. The presence of dyspnea, clubbing, restrictive spirometry, rales, and abnormal X-ray evidence was investigated. Five workers with 5 or less exposure years had restrictive spirometry and four workers with 5 to 11 exposure years had abnormal X-rays. No rales, clubbing, or dyspneas were found in any of the workers. Some incidental pulmonary problems were present. None of the workers had three of the five symptoms necessary for a diagnosis of pneumoconiosis. The author concludes that there were no definite cases of this respiratory disease among workers at this facility. [Description provided by NIOSH]
