  Worker exposures to perchloroethylene (127184) (PCE) were determined at Downtown Cleaners (SIC-7216) in Chicago, Illinois, on July 19, 1979. The company employed six workers. All air sample PCE concentrations were within the OSHA 8-hour time weighted average standard of 100 parts per million (ppm) or the 15 minute peak exposure of 200ppm. Since the carcinogenicity of PCE is not known, the author recommends that exposure be limited as much as possible. He recommends preplacement physical examinations, engineering controls, use of protective clothing, proper storage facilities, and worker education on PCE hazards. [Description provided by NIOSH]
