Industrial hygiene study of the Albee Theater demolition.

  Worker exposures to asbestos (1332214) were surveyed on May 9 and 10, 1977, at a demolition site (SIC-1622) in Cincinnati, Ohio. Air samples were taken during removal of the asbestos insulation from the boilers, pipes and ducts of an old theater. Eight hour time weighted average concentrations of asbestos were 0.09 to 0.7 fibers greater than 5 microns per cubic centimeter (f/cc) well below the OSHA Standard of 2.0f/cc. Fiber sizes ranged from 0.1 to greater than 1.0 micron in diameter, and 0.2 to greater than 10 microns in length. Twenty four percent of the fibers were greater than 5 microns in length. The author recommends that all workers involved in asbestos removal be provided with NIOSH approved respirators. [Description provided by NIOSH]
