  Worker exposures to occupational health hazards caused by manufacturing methods, raw materials, equipment and work practices in the men's apparel industry were surveyed at Salant and Salant (SIC-2337) in Parsons, Tennessee, on October 31, 1974. Six hundred and forty persons were employed including 22 in cutting, 470 in sewing and 48 in pressing. The facility had no formal health programs and did not have an industrial hygienist. An insurance carrier performed safety engineering services. Health information of new employers was recorded but employees were not required to take a pre-employment medical examination. A safety committee was established to investigate accidents and fix policies. Needle guards on sewing machines and plastic shields on bar tacking machines were provided. An air conditioning system provided ventilation. The author concludes that since the facility was not functioning during the visit there are no comments about possible health hazards.
