Description:Occupational health hazards were investigated at Colebrook Mills (SIC-2253 and 2311) Division of Bobbie Brooks, in Hialeah, Florida, on May 15, 1974 as part of a NIOSH health survey of the men's apparel industry. The company employed between 1,600 and 1,800 workers. Medical services were provided by an inhouse nurse or by local clinic and hospital facilities. The company had no industrial hygienist, although a safety committee composed of workers was operative. Inspection of the facility revealed potential health hazards due to exposure to volatile components of dyes and cloth finishes, and noise levels, that exceeded the OSHA standard of 90 decibels for an 8-hour exposure. The author recommends additional hygienic investigation of this facility. [Description provided by NIOSH]
