  Worker exposures to organic solvents were surveyed on May 8 and 9, and June 4 to 7, 1974 at Ameron, Incorporated (SIC-2879) in Brea, California. The company employed 399 workers. Personal and area air samples were analyzed along with bulk samples. Twenty nine workers underwent neurologic evaluation. Concentrations of methyl- butyl-ketone (591786), acetone (67641), methyl-ethyl-ketone (78933), methyl-isobutyl-ketone (108101), isopropanol (67630), xylene (1330207), ethyl-amyl-ketone (110430), styrene (100425) and butyl- cellosolve (111762) were well below exposure standards (unspecified). Mild neurologic disturbances found in three workers were due to factors other than methyl-butyl-ketone exposure. The authors conclude that no hazard from organic solvent vapor exposure exists at the company. They recommend that solvents not be used for hand cleaning and that workers be educated on the hazards of solvent exposure. [Description provided by NIOSH]
