  Exposures to perchloroethylene (127184) (PCE) at a dry cleaning facility (SIC-7216) in Menlo Park, California were studied. Air samples were collected using battery operated pumps and charcoal tubes. Eight hour time weighted average exposure to PCE was 15 parts per million (ppm) for the dry cleaner and 3ppm for the presser. Five minute peak samples collected during clothing transfer indicated PCE concentrations of 29 to 100ppm. The authors conclude that PCE concentrations at this company are well within current standards. They recommend that exposure to PCE be limited as much as possible, as the carcinogenic potential of the compound has not been established. [Description provided by NIOSH]
