  Worker exposures to free silica (7631869) were determined at the United Foundry Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 6, and December 16, 1968. Respirable mass samples for free silica ranged from less that 0.1 to 3.43 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/CuM) compared with the threshold limit value of 0.18 mg/CuM. The author recommends that dust respirators be used when conditions warrant, exhaust ventilation be provided during pouring operations, and that other ventilation improvements be implemented.
