Environmental sampling at 3 Arizona asbestos mines and mills.

  Worker exposures to asbestos (1332214) were surveyed at three asbestos mines and mills (SIC-1499) in Arizona. The date of the surveys was not reported. At the Jacquays mill, personal and general area asbestos concentrations were 0.7 to 8.2 and 5.0 to 11.1 fibers greater than 5 microns in length per cubic centimeter (f/cc), respectively. In the Jacquays mine, personal air samples contained area air sample asbestos concentrations were 10.4 to 47.5 and 11.1 to 59.9f/cc, respectively. In the Rek Towne mine, asbestos concentrations in personal air samples were 0.1 to 0.3 f/cc; general area air samples were not collected, and the mill section was not operating at the time of the survey. Average asbestos exposures at the Jacquays and Metate facilities exceeded the 1970 threshold limit value of 5.0f/cc, and exposures at Rek Towne mill probably also exceeded this limit based on earlier measurements and visual inspections.
