Description:An industrial hygiene survey of the Corpus Christi, Texas, Army Depot for potential hazardous exposures during gas air arc spraying and vacuum furnace operations is reported. The facility is involved in the repair, overhaul, modification, and modernization of aircraft systems (SIC-7699). Air samples were collected in the furnace brazing area as well as the wire form thermal spraying areas to determine the type and extent of fume and gas exposures. Trace metal samples were analyzed by atomic absorption for iron (743986), nickel (7440020), chromium (7440473), silver (7440224), copper (7440508), manganese (7439965), magnesium (7439954), and aluminum (7429905). The data indicate that all samples were within the current standards. The sample for zinc-oxide (1314132) was below the limits of detection. Gas samples analyzed for nitrogen-dioxide (10102440) were well within the current standards; however, a potential for peak exposure to all metal fumes during periods of heavier workloads does exist.
