  A visit was made at the University of Washington, for the purpose of gathering data to assess the reinforced plastics industry and determine the mortality effects of styrene (100425) exposure on workers. The University of Washington had undertaken several studies involving the reinforced plastic industries in that state. The information gathered to this point suggests that the boat manufacturing industry seems to have standard manufacturing processes which may allow a combination of a number of facilities into one study. The Washington Industrial Safety and Health Administration (WISHA) has information on historic environmental conditions at the boat manufacturing facilities which could assist in correlating any excess mortality uncovered in further study to exposure data. A follow up on the study population could possibly be simplified through the use of the WISHA insurance program files, in that premiums were paid according to industry and job function.
