  A walk through survey was conducted at the Allied Chemical Corporation facility in Moundsville, West Virginia, to determine if this site was appropriate for inclusion in an in depth environmental survey and epidemiological study of the effects of chronic exposure to carbon-tetrachloride (56235) and chloroform (67663). The production of these two chemicals started in 1954. About 184 individuals were involved with production at this facility, with an additional 85 persons in administrative duties. No routine operations involved with the production of the chloromethane compounds which represented potentially hazardous conditions were noted. However, care must continue to be exercised to avoid eye, skin and respiratory exposures to these end products and to hydrochloric-acid (7647010), chlorine (7782505), and methyl-chloride (74873) as well. The records located at the facility regarding personnel and their job histories seem adequate for inclusion in an epidemiological study. A review of the results of routine shift sampling and regular sampling in areas of high exposure potential indicated that all levels for possible exposure to hazardous materials were well below the recommended standards.
