Description:Worker exposure to arsenic (7440382) and antimony (7440360) were determined at Texas Smelting and Refining, Division of National Lead Industries (SIC-3339) in Laredo, Texas from April 21 to 22, 1975. The mill had a safety committee and air samples were collected at irregular intervals. At the time of the survey the antimony-oxide (1327339) facilities were shut down. Eight general area samples were collected next to processes where contamination was the highest. The only significant contamination was antimony (7440360), which exceeded federal standards. The authors note that individual worker exposure to antimony was probably below federal ceilings. They recommend that work clothes be washed at the worksite, and conclude that this mill would be a suitable candidate for an epidemiological study. [Description provided by NIOSH]
