  Worker exposures to potentially hazardous physical and chemical agents were determined at Varian Associates (SIC-3674) in Palo Alto, California on, April 6, 1979. The survey was part of a NIOSH health study of newly developing energy technologies. The company employed a part-time physician and a full-time safety officer. Other medical services were provided by local paramedics. Protective clothing was worn by workers during equipment cleaning and handling. Health hazards were minimized by relatively small raw material process requirements. Personnel exposures were minimized by process controls and careful handling procedures. The author concludes that no significant hazardous industrial health conditions were found, and a follow-up survey would be inappropriate. [Description provided by NIOSH]
