Description:A walk-through survey was conducted at Dow Chemical (SIC-7391), Plaquemine, Louisiana, on May 13, 1976, as part of a project to assess the present occupational exposures to chlorinated methanes and to determine the feasibility of performing a retrospective mortality analysis of workers exposed to these chemicals. The carbon-tetrachloride (56235) facilities (SIC-2869) reacts ethylene (74851) with chlorine (7782505). The chloromethanes facility is engaged in the chlorination of methanol (67561). Workers are potentially exposed to a wide array of chemicals, but indications suggest that exposures are kept at a minimum. [Description provided by NIOSH]
