Walk-through survey report of Swinerton and Walberg Co., Rocky Flats Area Office in Golden, Colorado.

  Worker exposures to paints and paint chemicals were assessed at the site of a planned plutonium recovery and waste treatment facility at Golden, Colorado, on February 16, 1979. The facility was under consideration for inclusion in a NIOSH epidemiological, industrial hygiene, and medical study of health hazards in the painting trade. The company constructing the facility had no formal industrial hygiene program, although a resident safety engineer was employed at the site. Personnel records were examined for demographic information, work assignments, and employment status. The number of painters employed at this site varied between 25 and 75. Painting was done primarily by brush and included semi-gloss enamel, exterior enamel, heat resistant paint, and other special finishes. The authors conclude that industrial hygiene, epidemiological and medical surveys of this group are not warranted due to the instability of the work force and the inadequacy of records.
