Description:An industrial hygiene survey of United Aircraft Products Inc., Forest, Ohio, to determine potential hazardous exposures during dip brazing process is reported. The facility specializes in custom designing and manufacturing components for heat transfer systems (SIC-3724). General and personal area samples were gathered to determine the type and extent of environmental exposures. A total of five air samples were collected during dip brazing operations. Samples were analyzed by atomic absorption methods for iron (743986), aluminum (7429905), manganese (7439965), zinc (7440666), silver (7440224), nickel (7440020), chromium (7440473), magnesium (7439954), cadmium (7440439), and copper (7440508). Most trace metals were below the limits of detection. All others were below current standards. It is noted, however, that a potential for increased exposures during periods of heavier work loads does exist. [Description provided by NIOSH]
