Investigation of a case of dermatitis reported by a roof bolter, TA-79-101-101.

• Description:
  Skin dermatitis in a roof bolter exposed to Celtite resin cartridges was investigated by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). After 1 month's exposure to the resin, the bolter developed poison oak type lesions on his hands, accompanied by cracked and bleeding skin. Examination showed that he was allergic to polyester resins. Thereafter, the worker wore neoprene gloves with cotton inserts and the dermatitis symptoms disappeared. NIOSH recommends that roof bolters wear gloves and goggles, be given new cotton inserts each day, and have access to portable eyewash stations. [Description provided by NIOSH]
