  This appendix contains detailed reports and analysis covering the 42 fatal mine disasters from 1970 to 2006. Data is provided in three parts: Major disasters (five or more miners killed) from 1970 to 2006; disasters from 1970 to 2006 involving fatalities in which less than five miners were killed; disasters that are not directly applicable to current intended use of refuge stations, but may have elements that may become relevant to designing, locating or establishing the usefulness of refuge stations. In all three parts, disasters are presented in descending chronological order. Data is summarized from disaster reports provided from MSHA archives and their website. In many cases, it was necessary to make certain assumptions with regard to data available. [Description provided by NIOSH]
